About
Korea in Time Tools is made by the team behind Korea in Time, a YouTube channel of one-minute stories from Korean history. We are based in Seoul, Korea.
We built these tools because the same questions come up again and again from viewers: how Korean names are put together, how to write a foreign name in Hangeul, and why Korean age used to be different. Each tool page explains the rule behind the answer.
How we check information
- Romanization follows the Revised Romanization of Korean (Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, 2000).
- Korean spellings of English names follow the loanword rules of the National Institute of Korean Language.
- Family-name shares come from Statistics Korea's 2015 Population and Housing Census.
- The age rules follow the law changes that took effect on 28 June 2023.
- Zodiac years start at Lunar New Year, read from the Korean lunar calendar built into your browser.
